Episode 157 with Mark McGee of How To Steam Broccoli with Reviews of Tether, ARCS, and Its A Wonderful World

Gumbo Live! is back with a new fall season, and you don't even need to subscribe to TV Guide to get the new fall lineup!  In our first episode, we chat with MARK MCGEE, one of the owners of the indie publisher, HOW TO STEAM BROCCOLi, who designed one of our favorite little card games this year, TETHER.  We chat about how Mark got the inspiration for the game, some of the challenges and benefits of self-publishing, and do a deep dive into the mechanics and gameplay. 

Then it is on to some talk about some spicy hot games we've played recently! 

First up is a discussion of Leder Games' hit from Cole Wehrle, ARCS! Mark and BJ have both played the base game a number of times and they have thoughts!  Then BJ gives a wildly Frankensteinen review of his recent plays of ITS A WONDERFUL WORLD from Lucky Duck Games (and available on BGA if you want to try it yourself.)  Does BJ love it or hate it? You'll have to decide for yourself! 

Finally, we enjoyed a rousing game of THE ENVIE GAME with Mark and the Chat Krewe! Mark's got a toughie, so tighten up your shoe laces and start running to your BGG listings to see if you can guess which game Mark has a hankering to play right now -- and why.

Gumbo Live! is back with a new season! In our fourth show, we visit with Ben Hammer about his brand new game coming soon to Kickstarter WE ALL TAKE FROM THE RIVER. It's a resource management and social deduction game that also gives insight to keeping a river and its estuary clean from pollution. It's Ben's first design, and he not only designed the game but did all the artwork himself. 

We also talked about a spicy hot game that Steve played recently called SKOVENTYR, a one to four person game designed by famed automa designer Morten Monad Peterson with gorgeous art from Vincent Detroit.

Finally, we played THE ENVIE game with Ben and Verla and Steve and the Chat Krewe.

LOGIC & LORE and CASCADIA ROLLING HILLS -- First Look!

BJ and Jeremy played Barcelona and Rats of Wistar on a recent Twitch Tuesdays in the Gumbo Pot, but before the euro game goodness started, they took a look at two projects on Kickstarter right now for some first impressions:  

• Logic & Lore from Weird Giraffe Games, a two player card game all about deducing the cards already in your tableau; and
• Cascadia: Rolling Hills from Flatout Games, a multiplayer flip-and-roll-and-write game from Randy Flynn!
